Working with other organizations, the committee sponsors educational programs, provides resources, and generally serves as the "touch point" on historic issues within AIA Connecticut. The Historic Resources Committee plans programs throughout the year. All AIA members are welcome.
- Currently the Historic Resources Committee is sponsoring or co-sponsoring several events and projects. We are available to assist other architects, preservation groups and/or the public in the preservation of threatened buildings. Recent examples are the Cigna Building in Bloomfield and the Messier Building in Bristol. Our assistance varies with every project according to the situation. Should a situation warrant, we can also call upon the assistance of the National AIA Historic Resources Committee. We continue to monitor and provide assistance to towns and architects interested in Village District zoning. We plan to continue this role for the indefinite future.
- We act as liaison with most of the historic preservation groups in the State, especially the Connecticut Historical Commission, the Connecticut Trust, the National Trust, and Connecticut Preservation Alliance.
- We attempt to sponsor one educational event annually in cooperation with the Education Committee or independently. In addition, our members serve as a resource for other architects seeking information on some problem issue in their practice relating to preservation. We also try to find at least one historic site each year for a chapter meeting.
- We publish a bibliography of books on historic preservation and related subjects. We also call upon our members to serve as speakers on preservation subjects addressing a wide variety of public groups.
- We are also responsible for the AIA Connecticut Preservation Award program, which recognizes architects whose contributions to historic preservation are especially notable.
