2009 International Residential Code

The 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) is scheduled for near future adoption and implementation. Architects with residential projects that will be underway in the second half of the year are advised to consult this code as they begin their design work. At this program, AIA Connecticut member, John J. Butkus, a current member of the State Codes and Standards Committee, will review the some of the essential changes in the new code.

Topics to be covered will include changes from the 2003 IRC in the areas of energy efficiency, foundations, fire resistant construction, wind regions, lightweight steel framing, alternative wall framing systems and adoption of the 2011 National Electrical Code.

John Butkus, AIA is Senior Program Manager at Arcadis US, Inc., a consultancy, design, engineering, and management firm in Middletown. He serves as the Program Director for its Arcadis/O&G Program Management in support of the Hartford School Construction Program. Jack has nearly 30 years’ experience as an architect, constructor and owner. A graduate of the New York Institute of Technology, Jack is a past Chairman of the State Codes and Standards Committee.
