Substantive Changes from 2003 to 2009 International Residential Code

Description: Presented by the AIA Connecticut Building Performance & Regulations Committee and generously sponsored by Energize Connecticut and James Hardie Building Products.

The 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) is scheduled for near future adoption and implementation. Architects with residential projects that will be underway in the second half of the year are advised to consult this code as they begin their design work. At this program, AIA Connecticut member Christopher Laux, AIA, will review some of the essential changes in the new code. Code consultant Christopher Laux, AIA is formerly the Connecticut State Building Inspector.

Topics to be covered will include changes from the 2003 IRC in the areas of energy efficiency, foundations, fire resistant construction, wind regions, lightweight steel framing, alternative wall framing systems and adoption of the 2011 National Electrical Code.
